Hey guys.  Not sure who has played Harbour Town Golf Links but I would be interested to hear opinions after visiting on the weekend.

Actually kind of disappointing. Maybe expectations were too high but for $261 in high season you are paying or a lot of the "PGA tour host course" mystique.  Some great par 3's but 18 is flat as a pancake.  The lighthouse well beyond the green is the only thing besides the water all down the left side that gives it any distinction.

What courses have you travelled long distances to play only to be let down?

I don't have a specific example but I have been to Hilton Head twice and both times I wanted to play Harbour Town. Both times the locals all said its not worth the money. Glad I didn't shell it out.

Good call. Lots of other options for less.  The Palmetto Dunes - Arthur Hills course we played the next day was far better..and only $81.

Not that I traveled specifically to play, but had a chance to play Heritage Point in Calgary this past summer and I didn't think it was worth the $125, nor do I think it was a Top 100 course. Conditioning was great, it had a few great views, but it also had some real wonky holes and some holes beside the highway that took away from the good the course had. I feel they used elevation really well for a bit and then after a while I felt like they overused it.

We have spent the last 10 years on Hilton Head and have walked part of the course--it's old style--narrow and well played--extremely small greens and not all that well taken care of.  As one other poster has said;  Palmetto Dunes---any three of their courses are much better in shape and much cheaper.  Have played 2 of them at 54.00---well worth it.

I played Stewart Creek in Alberta earlier this year. Didn't think that it was worth being 32nd in Canada, IMO.
