If anyone is interested in learning a bit about the Rules of Golf I will be running some on line sessions again this winter. Last winter we did 7 sessions every 2nd week throughout the winter. The sessions lasted between 1 1/2 & 2 hours and the participants had lots of questions.
The program I use to run the sessions is GoToMeeting (free) and involves a small download to configure the program and also a required headset to prevent echo and feedback. I send out a link before each session and it’s just a matter of clicking on that and joining in on the conversations. I’m not trying to get new rules officials for the OVGA but just offering interested players some good information that can help with tournaments or keeping it fair in money games.
Some of the topics that we will cover are: Relief from immovable obstructions (cart paths), relief from water hazards, unplayable ball, provisional ball, abnormal ground conditions (casual water, ground under repair), stroke play vs match play and ball at rest moved. These are all things that happen regularly while playing and especially when we’re officiating at tournament. If you have any rules questions don’t hesitate to contact me. The Ottawa area has some of the top Rules Officials in Canada and we’re always willing to help with any situations you may encounter.
If interested just email me and I'll put you on the list. The first introductory session will probably be early December and the rest will be January - March.
