Just wondering what your most important stat is when playing a round?  First do you keep track of any?   I use GolfLogix and keep track of fairways hit and where my misses are, number of putts, greens in regulation, sand shots and penalty strokes.   To me the least important is fairways hit although it's my best stat.  My number of putts hasn't been as good as I'd like.  Penalty strokes is way to high for my liking. My worst stat and I feel the most important to improve on is greens in regulation.  This one is my worst and don't know how I can improve it. I'll hit many approach shots that are a "just" shot, just short, just left or just right.  No consistency in the misses but way too many of them and I feel that to score better I have to hit more greens.  My chipping has been saving me lately but I'm not happy with always having to chip and not all of them get me close enough to one putt.

I hit a fair number of fairways and am at peace with my putting, but where I am atrocious at is greens in regulation. I am the king of double bogies from the middle of the fairway!!!

So for me:

GIR

I would say fairways for me, but more as an indicator of how well I am getting off the tee. My game goes as my tee game goes.

I would say number of penalty strokes. I've got a decent short game so GIR doesn't really bug me much. It's keeping the stupid shots away. However, I consider a 3-putt, double chip, pitch outs, and traditional penalties all penalties.

Saying that, fairways hit is huge for me. If I'm in play off the tee I almost always score well.

GIR - the stat that hurts me most , I can hit plenty of fairways and first cuts of rough , but the GIR's cost me .

Having a two putt for par , rather that on the fringe/bunker chipping , this adds all the shots to my score . The stats don't lie , my iron play needs improving ....
