Much like they did with the “Big Bertha”, Callaway Golf is resurrecting a product line name that still has a lot of familiarity and value.
Coming to retail on September 2nd will be a new line of irons and hybrids under the “Steelhead” brand. Callaway’s first run of Steelhead products came out in 1998.
The new irons and woods will debut under the name “Steelhead XR”.
The new irons feature the familiar Callaway iron profile that helped them define a generation of products along with the next step in their 360 face cup technology. For those familiar with the latter you will know that is helps provide more ball speed across the entire club-face, assisting the player on mis-strikes.
The new model also includes a hollow, bore-thru design to re-position mass more effectively in the clubhead. An integral polyurethane layer (that is steel-infused) tempers the sound and feel to be more pleasing.
In the accompanying Steelhead XR hybrids you will also find a “Hyper Speed Face Cup” design with a larger head and a centre of gravity deeply positioned back from the face for more stability and higher launch characteristics.
Steelhead XR irons will be available in both steel and graphite shafts.
