Gear Report – Ping, adidas, Titleist and More

With just two weeks until the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, the public relations teams at most golf companies are in high gear releasing news of their latest introductions and other related news.

A few items from recent days –

PING has announced their staff of touring professionals for 2012. The list covers some 90 players from 20 different countries.  The list includes many longtime staff players: #2 Lee Westwood; long-hitting Bubba Watson; Hunter Mahan; Mark Wilson; and Miguel Angel Jimeñez, a.k.a. “The Mechanic,” who begins his 25th year with PING. Also on the roster are major winners Angel Cabrera and Louis Oosthuizen. In addition, the club maker signed a number of highly touted rookies, notably Tom Lewis, Harris English, and Andy Sullivan. On the LPGA, 14 women will represent the PING brand, including Spaniard Azahara Muñoz, whose biggest prize in 2011 was winning a key singles match late on the final day to help secure Europe’s Solheim Cup victory. I.K. Kim, Angela Stanford and Maria Hjorth continue with PING, along with retired star Lorena Ochoa, who serves as PING’s global ambassador.

After recently releasing the Wi-Fi enable SkyCaddie SGXw which will get it official debut at the PGA Show, SkyGolf will also be rolling out a new dynamic  fitting software system that interfaces with leading launch monitors.  The company says the product called SwingLabs® will provide |a true unbiased solution for fitting specialists, PGA Professionals, and the golfers they service.”

adidas Golf has brought to mark another improved version of their popular Powerband golf shoe.  According to adidas the Powerband 4.0 for caters to those seeking enhanced stability, leverage, and balance control.  “There’s no better way to support golf’s growing power game than by advancing golf’s most powerful shoe,” said Bill Price, Sr. Director of Global Footwear. “The POWERBAND 4.0 provokes confidence because it delivers the support and stability aggressive golfers need – and does so at a tour-proven level.”  Available in three colourways it is already shipping to retailers.

Canadian shaft maker ACCRA will launch their Dymatch 2.0 shaft at the 2012 PGA Merchandise Show.  The second installation of the popular Dymatch shaft will, as always, be only available through a network of certified fitters.  The Dyamatch shaft line ensures that each shaft in your woods is matched to each other dynamically, rather than statically, for consistent results from your driver through hybrid.

The first PGA Tour victory of 2012 not only goes to Steve Stricker but to his sponsors, Titleist and FootJoy.   The Wisconsin native used a full cadre of their gear during his win at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions.  Stricker’s bag for the tournament included the following Titleist equipment: Pro V1x, 909D3 driver (8.5), 906F2 fairway metal (13.5), 909H hybrid (19), AP2 irons (3-P), Vokey Design sand (254.10/bent to 53) and lob (260.12/bent to 59) wedges. He also wore shirts from three of the Spring 2012 FootJoy fashion color collections at Kapalua.  Stricker wore FootJoy DryJoys Tour shoes along with a Pure Touch Limited Glove from the company.

Nike Golf has released their newest Mid-Mallet design, the Method Core Concept.  Nike touts the putter as having the appearance of a blade with the stability of a mallet.  A lightweight face has been matched with a heavy body in the design that features dramatic red and black colouring in the clubhead.  “We are giving consumers something new and something better,” said David Franklin, Master Model Maker, Nike Golf.  “There’s a reason the shape is the way it is. It allows us to infuse vital science and powerful technology that delivers a very high MOI in a relatively small package.”  The Nike Method Franchise has more than 35 worldwide wins on the professional tours, including three major championships.  The putter, available in standard and belly lengths, will be available on February 17th.
