With the retraction of Nike Golf from the hards good business some opportunities have arisen for other golf manufacturers. That extends beyond attracting former Nike staffers to play their equipment, and reaches into the side of design and engineering of products.
Callaway Golf has taken full advantage and announced that Hideyuki “Rock” Ishii has joined their staff as Sr. Director, Advanced Golf Ball Research. The soft spoken but passionate Ishii has worked in golf ball development for a quarter of century, including the last 15 with Nike Golf where he designed every Nike golf ball.
“Adding Rock to our already exceptional ball team will strengthen our ability to investigate new construction methods and improve our evaluation of golf ball performance,” said Dr. Alan Hocknell, Callaway’s SVP of R&D, “leading to better products for golfers at every level.”
This follows a trend where Callaway Golf is growing their products and contributors to them. They recently brought Sean Toulon and his boutique putter company, Toulon Design, into the fold.
“By further investing in R&D, at a time when we believe others are or will be forced to pull back, we view this as an excellent opportunity to further strengthen our technical position and build for the future,” said Chip Brewer, President & CEO, Callaway Golf.
