At a very young age Michelle Wie has become an icon in the game of golf.
Her early arrival on the golf scene got the golf world buzzing and her ascension to becoming a major champion has been welcomed by her many fans.
Willing to be herself has heightened Wie’s popularity as well and her interest and art and fashion has become widely known through her social media channels.
It’s not surprise then that she has partnered with her friends at Nike Golf to create a shoe that conveys her eclectic styling.
This week Wie will walk the fairways at the Evian Championship in France in a pair of hot pink Women’s Nike Blazers from Nike Golf, resplendent with a camouflage Swoosh.
Tucked inside of them will also be a reminder of her only major championship to date, the 2014 United States Women’s Open. Her scores from that momentous victory are right inside the tongue of the shoe.
“Michelle asked us to create a high top golf shoe,” explains Joël Greenspan, footwear designer for Nike Golf. “She wanted to feel more support throughout her swing and greater connection to the ground. She also wanted a shoe that would reflect her distinct sense of style on and off the course. The Women’s Nike Blazer is a dynamic take on a classic silhouette; re-engineered and re-materialized to reflect Michelle’s elite level of play.”
The original Blazer was a basketball shoe. It debuted in 1972 on the feet of basketball legend George “The Iceman” Gervin. Since then the style has been adapted for skate and lifestyle shoes, and now it comes to golf.
Wie shoes that the choice of design is about more than a fashion statement.
“The Blazer is a versatile, stylish and high-performance shoe. The high top collar is so functional for me, providing the support I need through the impact of my swing. I love the fact that I can bring the iconic retro hoops look to the golf course.”
The Women’s Nike Blazer from Nike Golf will be available in early 2016 at select retailers.
