After two rounds of play at the Symetra Tour Chico’s Patty Berg Memorial, Augusta James of Bath, Ontario is contending for top spot.

With 36 holes to play the 22 year-old Tour Rookie and 2014 Canadian Women’s Amateur Champion is sitting at five under par total after rounds of 69 and 70 at the Cypress Lake Country Club in Fort Myers, Florida.

As of mid-afternoon on Friday, James was tied for the lead with the afternoon wave of players yet to finish.

Being in one of the top groups has advantages in this unique tournament.  Over the weekend the Symetra Tour players will be paired with LPGA Tour veterans who now play the Legends Tour.

Three Canadians are among those Legends Tour players – Lorie Kane, Gail Graham, and Dawn Coe-Jones and it would be fitting if James is paired with one of them on the weekend.

James was interviewed on Friday after her round (see below).

Maude-Aimee Leblanc of Sherbrooke, Quebec is also near the top of the leaderboard.  She is three under par after 36 holes.

There are 11 Canadians in the Symetra Tour field.

The tournament concludes Sunday.
