Bath, Ontario’s Augusta James is right where she needs to be after round one at Stage III of the LPGA Qualifying Tournament.
James, who barely missed earning LPGA Status for 2016 after she finished in 12th place on the 2015 Symetra Tour Volvik Race For The Card, is trying to be in the top 20 and ties this week to gain that status. She is attempting to join fellow Eastern Ontario golfer Brooke Henderson as an LPGA member.
Being played at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida, James opened the scheduled 90 hole event with a 70, 2 under par. That leaves her in a share of 18th place.
Leading the way for the Canadian contingent of ten players is Sara Maude Juneau. The Quebec native turned in an impressive four under par round of 68 that has her sharing 5th place. She is three strokes back of leaders Simin Feng of China and Christine Song of the USA.
Among the top twenty is one other Canadian, Samantha Richdale of British Columbia, who matched James with a 70.
