He needs a big push to earn PGA TOUR status for 2016 and Brad Fritsch is off to the right start at the Hotel Fitness Championship. The first event of the Web.com Tour Finals, a four event series where 25 PGA Tour “Cards” for 2016 are up for grabs, is being played in Fort Wayne, Indiana and apparently the Sycamore Hills Golf Club is to the liking of Fritsch.
The Manotick, Ontario native opened the tournament with a pedestrian score of 71 (-1) but shot off fireworks in round two. On Friday he opened his round by going five under par for the first five holes; that included a memorable shot on the par 5, 5th hole. Fritsch covered all 570 yards of that hole in just two shots, an albatross. It’s a rare shot in golf, even for the Sycamore Hills course designer, Jack Nicklaus. (You can check out a list of professionals who have made an albatross in tournament play on Wikipedia here)
Knocked one off the bucket list, an albatross from 219 (211 front) with a five iron! Didn’t see it go in…but love that feeling!

The improbable shot aided Fritsch to an opening side 30 (-6) on his way to a round of 64 (-8).
When he left the course Friday his -9 total had him in 2nd place alone, two back of then leader Jamie Lovemark.
