Little sister Brooke may have been ranked the #1 amateur golfer in the world when she turned pro last month but Brittany Henderson is not backing down in the race to be the top professional golfer in the family. The Smiths Falls’ golfers are showcasing that battle in Florida this week.
With eighteen holes scheduled to be played in the SunCoast Ladies Series event at West Orange Country Club, Brittany, 24, leads both Brooke and 5-time LPGA Tour winner Maria Hjorth by two strokes.
Brittany opened with rounds of 71 and 71, even par.
17 year-old Brooke chimed in with a 71 and a 73 while Hjorth turned in a 72 each day.
The trio will play together on Thursday for the final round.
Brittany is already a winner on this tour having won the SunCoast Ladies Series event at Black Bear GC in 2014, not far from this week’s tournament just outside Orlando. Brooke caddied for Brittany in that tournament.
When we spoke with Brittany last week at the PGA Merchandise Show (where Brooke was making an appearance for PING Golf, who supports both players), the elder sister said she was feeling good about her game and eager to get her season started. She earned a place on the Symetra Tour this season via her finish at LPGA Tour Qualifying in December. The Symetra Tour season begins in three weeks in Arizona.
The lead group will tee off at 11:33 a.m. on Thursday.
