It’s the best result she could hope for..so far this week.
17 year-old Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ontario shot 68 on Monday at Columbia Edgewater Country Club to win one of two open qualifier spots available for the LPGA’s Cambia Portland Classic. Doris Chen also qualified with a 68.
Henderson, who has already won more than $460,000 on the LPGA Tour in 2015 in 9 events played, also open qualified at the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic in February and the Volunteers of America North Texas Shootout at the end of April. She has played her other LPGA starts on earned or Sponsor’s Exemptions.
She will now join her older sister Brittany Henderson in the field in Portland. Brittany received a Sponsor’s Exemption to play in the event.
As a LPGA Tour non-member Brooke is trying to play her way on the the Tour without having to go to Qualifying School. She can do that by earning the equivalent of the top 40 player on the money list by the end of this season. Currently she would be in 20th place on the money list if she was eligible.
