After a first win as a professional last week on the SunCoast Series, Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls will try and keep her victory streak alive this week on the LPGA TOUR.
In essence she is now two for two as she was the low medalist at the two spot qualifier on Monday for the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic.
A score of 69 (-4) was enough for the rookie pro to top a field of 26 players including five Canadians.
Right behind her was fellow Ontarian, Rebecca Lee Bentham of Richmond Hill, Ontario who also earned one of the coveted tee times for later this week.
Qualifying is a little bit of redemption for Henderson who, sources tell us, was close to being a sponsors invite for the field but was passed over in favour for Bahamian Raquel Riley.
Pairing for the tournament will be available later this week.
The tournament is played over the same course that was used for qualifying on Monday, the par 73, 6644-yard, Ocean Club Golf Course in Nassau.
The stakes will be a little higher for Brooke this week. In Florida she earned $2,200 for her victory. The overall purse this week is $1,300,000 (USD) with a first place prize of $195,000.
With caddy and sister Brittany by her side they will take on 28 of the top 30 players on the LPGA TOUR including newly minted World #1, Lydia Ko.
It was Ko’s record that for the youngest player ever to win a professional golf event that Brooke toppled at the age of 14 years, 9 months, and 14 days.
