With just weeks to go until the World Amateur Golf Championship takes place, Golf Canada as named the squad of golfers that will represent the nation.
The competitions will be held at the Mayakoba El Cameleón Golf Club and Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club in Riviera Maya, Mexico with the women playing September 14-17 and the men teeing it up on September 21-24.
On the ladies’ side of the draw for Canada will be Maddie Szeryk (Ontario/Texas), Josée Doyon (Quebec) and Naomi Ko (BC).
The threesome will play for the Espiritio Santo trophy.
The men’s side of the draw will also feature some strong talent with Canadian Open amateur star Jared du Toit (BC) joining Garrett Rank (Ontario) and reigning Canadian Men’s Amateur Champion Hugo Bernard of Quebec. They will play for the coveted Eisenhower trophy.
“The World Amateur Team Championships are two of the pinnacle events that we use to benchmark our players performance and development globally,” said Jeff Thompson, Golf Canada’s Chief Sport Officer. “Our recent success in this event is a reflection of our commitment to supporting and developing some of the world-class talent that we have here in Canada, and we hope to demonstrate that again this year with the remarkable group of athletes chosen to represent us. Though the selection process was difficult, I remain confident that this team will represent our country in a very positive light.”
