Chris Barber, the Ottawa PGA professional/manager from The Landings Golf Club in Kingston, Ontario gave himself an early present by winning the second leg of the Flagstick.com Players Tour, the TaylorMade-Adidas Ottawa PGA Summer Open at the Renfrew Golf Club on July 12th.  Barber celebrates birthday number 40 on July 13th.

Chris and Camelot Associate Professional James Sperinck ended their rounds with scores of 2 under par 69 and both players had birdie putts on the uphill par-4, 10th hole at Renfrew. Chris birdied and James missed his birdie ending the playoff.

Finishing alone in third place with a score of 70 was Pembroke’s Alec Hubert followed by Island Brae’s Drew Calver and his even-par score. Tied for fifth place with scores of 72 were Graham Gunn from White Sands and Smiths Falls’ Dan McNeely.

“I managed the front nine and with the back nine a little more open, I used my length to my advantage,” were the comments of the Summer Open Champion. “I kept the ball in play.” A look at his scorecard showed Chris with bogies on 4 and 16, while he recorded birdies on 9, 11, 14 and 15. Chris gave credit to the Ottawa Zone and the many good players he competes with on a regular basis and is looking forward to competing in his 40’s.

Dave Kalil from the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club, with a score of 74, was the winner of the senior component of the TaylorMade-Adidas Summer Open for the second year in a row. Hot on his heels in a tie for second place with scores of 75 were Cedarhill’s Greg White and Mississippi’s Terry Kolar.

Next up for the Ottawa PGA Golf Professionals on the Flagstick.com Players Tour is their Titleist/FootJoy Zone Championship on August 19-20 at the Carleton Golf & Yacht Club.
