It was the worst of times and the best of times for Brooke Henderson on day one of the ShopRite LPGA Classic in Galloway, New Jersey.
Playing on a sponsor’s exemption the 17 year-old pro from Smiths Falls, Ontario ultimately tallied a score of -3, 68, at the Stockton Seaview Hotel & Golf Club, but it was the way she did it that was most remarkable.
The Team Canada Young Pro squad member made eight birdies on the day against five bogies, with a handful of pars for good measure. To say it was up and down would be an understatement.
At one point early in the day Henderson was two over par for the round after starting on the 10th hole. She followed with six birdies in the next eight holes to turn her fortunes and move up the leaderboard.
By the time she finished the day she was in a share of second place with the afternoon wave of players yet to tee off.
She be part of the later tee times on Friday.
