Adding to what should prove to be a very busy summer for golf in Nova Scotia, SportBox Entertainment Group officially announced Tuesday that the Web.com Tour will be returning for 2015.
The Nova Scotia Open will take place at the Ashburn Golf Club in Halifax from July 2-5.
One of the biggest elements of the week will actually follow the tournament this year, the RBC Canada Cup. It takes place on Monday, July 6th.
It was already known that Team Canada would be made up of Team Captain Mike Weir, along with fellow Canadian PGA TOUR players Graham DeLaet and David Hearn, but on Tuesday PGA Tour luminary Fred Couples was named as the Captain of the team representing the rest of the world. The additional two marquee players will be named at a later date.
Each team will also be supplemented by a player from the Web.com Tour, to be named at a later date.
Weir has has a nearly 20 year relationship with Fred Couples, starting all the way back to the former Canadian Skins game where they competed against each other in 1998 at the Links at Crowbush Cove in Prince Edward Island.
“I’ve known Freddy for a long time”, said Weir about his fellow Masters Champion on the media call. “He showed me around Augusta National and has been like a big brother.”
“I am excited to be part of the RBC Canada Cup and look forward to visiting Halifax this summer,” said Couples. “I’m sure Canadian fans will cheer loudly for Team Canada and I look forward to playing in the international atmosphere as part of Team World. I anticipate a great competition and exciting experience for fans.”
In 2014 the Nova Scotia Open attracted more than 25,000 golf fans.
