Inclement weather robbed Oshawa, Ontario’s Derek Gillespie of a chance for a win on the PGA TOUR Latinoamerica on Sunday.

The 38 year-old veteran pro held the lead alone late in the third round on Saturday at the Argentina Classic before relinquishing it to Samuel Del Val.

Gillespie expected to start the final round on Sunday at a one stroke deficit and with an opportunity for a run at the title. The weather had other ideas.

Tournament officials cancelled the final round, shortening the event to 54 holes and awarding the winner’s trophy to Del Val.

As a result Gillespie was left in the second place tie where he ended the third round. For his efforts he did earn $15,400, his biggest cheque by far in 13 events on that tour this season.

As a result he moves to 30th place on the Order of Merit with $25,512 earned overall.

Corey Conners of Listowel, Ontario missed the cut. That moves him down to 6th place on the Order of Merit. That is outside Los Cinco, the five spots that earn status on the Web.com Tour for next season.

There are two events left on the tour’s schedule.
