It’s long been said that when one door closes, another one opens. That’s exactly the case at the Metcalfe Golf Club in Ottawa’s south end where one employee is leaving the flock but they are busy welcoming a new one in his place.
General Manager Rob Howell tells us that their Chef of the past two seasons, Ronnie Coppins, has decided to return to work at the Couples Resort. “While we are sad to see Ronnie leave, we are also very happy and excited for him and the opportunity he has received at the Resort,” wrote Howell in a memo to the membership that was shared with Flagstick. “I would personally like to thank Ronnie for his hard work and dedication to the Metcalfe Golf Club over the past two seasons. We have all been fortunate to enjoy his creative features and specials, Friday dinners and of course special member’s banquet meals.”
While Coppins remains at the club for the next few weeks to help with the transition, the club has announced that Tony Skaf has been hired as the new Chef.
“Tony has over 30 years experience working at restaurants in the Ottawa area including the St. Elias Centre and Robbie’s Italian Restaurant. Most recently, Tony was the owner & chef at the Rockcliffe Bistro for 12 years and has spent the last 2 years working at Mezzanotte in the market.
Added Howell, “We feel that Tony’s vast experience with both restaurant meals and banquets will make him a huge asset to the Metcalfe Golf Club. Tony is committed to continuing the same type and style of great meals that Hickories Restaurant is famous for. In addition to maintaining our favourite dishes, Tony also has a few new ideas and specialties he plans to introduce this season.”
Skaf will officially begin his tenure at Metcalfe Golf Club on March 5th.
