(Golf Ontario, WINDSOR)— Round two of the 2016 Investors Group Ontario Women’s Amateur Championship, July 13 from Ambassador Golf Club, saw a new leader emerge from the pack as Ottawa’s Grace St-Germain now holds a three-shot lead.

St-Germain, 17-years-old and a member of Golf Canada’s National Development Squad and the Camelot Golf & Country Club, entered the day in third place just one-shot back of the leaders. She wasted little time in making up the gap with birdies on the second and third holes. That moved her into the lead and while others joined her in a share of the lead during the round, she would end the day with it outright thanks to a two-under (70). St-Germain now sits at five-under (69-70-139) for the tournament.

Alone in second place is Richmond Hill’s Jessica Ip. Ip, from the Station Creek Golf Club, was part of a five-way tie for fourth heading into the day after an opening round of one-under (71). She remained consistent during round two carding another one-under (71). Ip found trouble early but thanks to three back-to-back birdies on holes 6, 7 and 8, she was able to get back on track and is now two-under (71-71-142) for the championship.

In a tie for third are the opening round co-leaders Richmond Hill’s Monet Chun and Guelph’s Rachel Pollock who both shot a three-over (75). For Chun (68-75-143), a Team Ontario and Summit Golf & Country Club member, she was even through nine but settled for three bogeys on the back nine to end the day three-over.  Pollock (68-75-143) too carded three bogeys on the back nine after playing the front one over. She did sink a birdie on the 18th to help her finish at three-over. Both players are now one-under for the event, four back of the lead.

Rounding out the top five is the 2016 Ontario Senior Women’s Champion, Thornhill’s Judith Kyrinis. Kyrinis, from the Thornhill Club, was also part of the five-way, fourth place tie after round one at one-under (71). She had a great front nine and was three-under at the turn. However, she was unable to maintain that pace, finishing the back nine four-over to end the day one-over. Kyrinis is now even for the tournament (71-73-144).

In total 64 players began the four-day, 72-hole tournament. After the round, the field was cut to the lowest 54 scores, including ties.  The cut was set at 25-over (169) and 55 players made the cut to play the final two rounds.

In addition to playing for the Marlene Stewart Streit Trophy, the top three finishers will earn for the right to represent Ontario in the team competition at the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship, July 26-29 at the Ken-Wo Golf Club in New Minas, Nova Scotia.
