After a week in Korea where a tie for 56th was the result, Canada’s Brooke Henderson seems in better form at the Blue Bay LPGA in China as she seeks her 3rd LPGA victory of the season.
The 19 year-old from Smiths Falls, currently ranked 5th in the world, opened with a score of 69 (-3) on Hainan Island. The score has her sharing 6th place after round one and she is 4 strokes off the lead of Australia’s Minjee Lee.
Things were not looking too bright for the teen early in the round; she was 1 over par through 12 holes but a big finish brightened the day. A birdie on the 14th hole started a run of four in a stretch of five holes to push her well up the leaderboard.
Two other Canadians are in the limited field event – Alena Sharp posted a 73 to share 42nd while Maude-Aimee Leblanc struggled to an 84 to hold the 80th position.
