After round three of the Reignwood LPGA Classic, Brooke Henderson, who trailed by a single stroke at that point, predicted – “I think it’ll be really tight right down until the end.”
She was right, unfortunately she proved not be a factor in the end at the event in Beijing, China. She made birdies on three final holes of the closing round just to get within three strokes of the eventual winner, I.K. Kim of Korea.
Kim used a final round 66 (-7) to reach -24 and capture the title, her first of the LPGA season. The score narrowly got her past two other Korean golfers, Mi Jung Hur (-23) and Mirim Lee (-22).
Henderson, who started the day at -19 and was one over par though 15 holes after two bogies and a birdie, ended the day at -21 thanks to her closing trio of birdies. She ultimately shared fourth place with Shanshan Feng of China.
Brooke’s rounds of 66-66-68-71 earned her (USD) $97,287 and pusher her LPGA earnings for 2016 to $1,514,982. She now ranks third in the Race To The CME Globe.
It was her 13th top ten finish this year and her second in a row after a tie for 9th at the Evian Championship.
Maude-Aimee Leblanc of Quebec finished in a share of 42nd while Alena Sharp of Ontario shared 51st.
Next up for the LPGA is the Fubon LPGA Taiwan Championship from October 6-9.
