Here & There In Golf

Smiths Falls golfer Brooke Henderson has advanced to match play at the United States Women’s Amateur Championship. The recent Canadian Amateur Champion shot rounds of 71 and 70 in the stroke play portion of the championship to earn the #5 seed for match play.  She faces Kacie Komoto of Hawaii on the Round of 64. Their match begins at 10:10 a.m. on Wednesday.  The championship is being played in Charleston, South Carolina.

The Ottawa Valley Golf Association held their Ladies 4-Ball Championship at the Canadian Golf & Country Club on July 6th. The A Class winners were Kate Burnett and Kristin Ranieri.  B was won in a playoff by Nancy Dale and Dale Duncan.  C Division winners were Patricia Heyes and Dianne Miller

Allen McGee continues his reign in top spot on the Ottawa-Gatineau Slammer Tour. McGee staved off Zac Wood in a rematch at Dragonfly Golf Links last week.  McGee defended his number one position handily, posting a 5&3 victory that saw him make two eagles on the day.

Eagle Creek’s Jake Bryson opened with a 75 on Tuesday and is just two strokes back of the lead in his division at the Mizuno Canadian Junior Golf Association National Championships.

Five Flagstick region players are in action this week at the Canadian Amateur.  While Team Canada member Corey Connors leads after an opening 66, the quintet from the area will need to fight to make the cut.  Robert Mustard & Auston James posted the best score of the locals, 73’s that have them in a share of 68th.  Other scores of regional players: Josh Whalen (74), Curtis Dancy (75), & Maxime Marengere (79)

The results have yet to be posted to the official website but we’ve received word from Hylands Golf Club General Manager Cody Barbeau that he has won the Gold Medal in the Men’s Over 35 Premier Division at the World Masters Games.  The games are being held in Torino, Italy where Barbeau’s wide is also competing. She is representing Canada in soccer with a team from Ottawa.
