Kingston’s Ryan Kennedy has some ground to make up but he is in the hunt. The young touring pro shot 69, 3 under par, on Tuesday in the opening round of the NGA Pro Golf Tour event at the Barefoot Dye Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
“I finally got the putter going,” he told Flagstick last night. Kennedy tallied six birdies on the day, offset by a bogey and one double bogey. The larger error came on the par three 6th, a hole that Kennedy says can be a hard one for him. “Yeah, six is tough because my miss is right and I was right between clubs.”
Kennedy is tied for 5th place with two rounds to play. He is one back of a share of second place. The leader, Zack Byrd of nearby Murrells Inlet, opened with a 66.
Kennedy will gave to continue his good play on Wednesday – only the top 16 players and ties will make the 36 hole cut.
