Winless in three years, Stacy Lewis used some external motivation and a calmer nature than normal to win the Cambia Portland Classic presented by JTBC.
With a previous promise to donate all her earning to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts, the veteran and Houston resident shot -20 (70-64-65-69) to slip past In Gee Chun and take top prize.
“You know, when I said that I had the goal winning the tournament, and you got to get a lot of things right, to go your way, ” shared Lewis, who won (USD) $195,000 for her efforts. “Just what we’re going to be able to do, we’re going to be able to help me rebuild houses and get their homes back. That’s more important than anything.”
Canada’s Brooke Henderson (-10) was making a big rebound on Sunday after a less than stellar third round where she had added a 74 to back to back 67’s.
Playing holes four through seven in 5 under par, Henderson worked her way back into the top 5 early on Sunday. Unfortunately a final hole triple bogey dropped her all the way back to a share of 15th (67-67-74-70) to end the week. It was still her 12th top-15 finish of the season.
Alena Sharp completed play in a tie for 33rd while Maude Aimee Leblanc took 72nd place.
