The Mackenzie TOUR – PGA TOUR Canada confirmed today that their 2016 schedule will see twelve events played across the country.
Ten events will return from the 2015 schedule and two new events will replace the now departed Wildfire Invitational and The Great Waterway Classic.
Those two Ontario-based events will make way for two in western Canada, the new Oil Country Championship (Edmonton) and the GolfBC Championship (Kelowna).
Ottawa golfers will be happy to see the National Capital Open to Support Our Troops is back and will be played from August 15-21, 2016.
The 2016 tour will kick off in May with the Freedom 55 Financial Open in Vancouver and will conclude in September with the Freedom 55 Financial Championship in London, Ontario. The first 11 events will all feature purses of $175,000 while the Championship puts $200,000 on the table. A rumour was around last year that event purses might jump to as high as $225,000 this season but obviously they did not come to fruition.
“Thanks to the hard work of our host organizations and tremendous support from our sponsors, especially our umbrella sponsor Mackenzie Investments, we’re in a great position to play 12 fantastic events across Canada this season,” said Mackenzie Tour President Jeff Monday. “We look forward to seeing another season of outstanding play from our players while making a positive impact in each of the communities where we play.”
As it was in 2015, the Order of Merit winner for the 2016 Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada will earn fully exempt status on the Web.com Tour for the follow campaign. Players finishing 2nd to 5th in that Order of Merit will earn conditional Web.com Tour status for 2017. All those finishing 2nd to 10th will be exempt into final stage of Web,com Tour Qualifying while players finishing 11th to 20th will be exempt into second stage.
The TOUR also released a new logo in concert with the schedule announcement.
“We are thrilled to support another great season of golf, helping the players build the confidence they need to succeed, while raising the profile of the Mackenzie Tour both on and off the course,” said Jeff Carney, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mackenzie Investments. “Last season the Mackenzie Tour raised a record amount of money for charities across Canada and we look forward to building on that momentum and driving additional support, especially in the two new tour stops this season, Kelowna B.C. and Edmonton Alta., which are exciting additions to an already outstanding roster.”
