Kingston’s Matt McQuillan opened with a three under par score of 69 yesterday at the Hooters Tour Diamondback tournament just south of Orlando, Florida. The round included six birdies, one double bogey and a bogey.
He sits 4 strokes back of the current leader heading into round two. The full field did not complete play yesterday due to a fog delay in the morning.
McQuillan has had a steady run on the Hooters Tour Winter series. He has made 8 of 9 cuts so-far, an impressive feat in a setup that only see the top 40 players and ties advance to the final day. He currently sits in 12th place on the overall money list.
Reached in Florida on Monday McQuillan says he plans to play one more event on the Hooters Tour before possibly heading up to South Carolina for a EGolf Tour (formerly Tarheel Tour) event on the way home to Canada.
He expects to split his time in 2010 between the EGolf Tour and a Canadian Tour schedule.
Fellow Kingstonian Peter Sauerbrei did not complete play on Tuesday before darkness set in so no score for him was available.
