It was the final event of theGolf Québec Junior season and the young golfers from Ottawa made it a good one.
The 6th edition of the Golf Québec Inter-Regional Championship was played out at the Ste-Flore Golf Club in Shawinigan.
It was an impressive showing for Team Ottawa led by PGA of Ottawa Professional Jeff Gunn in the role of coach. They faced off against seven other Quebec regionals teams, all with players aged 16 and under and with six boys and two girls on each squad.
The Ottawa Valley Golf Association team consisted of Max Dragon and Alexandre Lefebvre (juvenile), Alexander Brisebois and Brayden Valiquette (bantam) as well as Ellis Kinnaird and James Newton (pee-wee). They were joined by Megan MacGregor-Coste and Haley Yerxa in the girls’ division.
In the multiple format competition that saw points awarded for each win, Ottawa trailed the team from Montreal South after day one by five points.
They more than made up for that in the final round.
One Sunday the Ottawa team swept their competition, save for a tie in bantam boys class, but recorded a perfect 40 point day.
As a result they posted a ten point victory over the team from Canton de l’est.
