The junior golfers of the Ottawa Valley Golf Association proved their supremacy in Quebec golf over the weekend at Le Victorien Golf Club in Lachute.
The team representing Ottawa won the Quebec Inter-Regional Championship, facing off against other top players from Golf Quebec.
The OVGA team was made up by Julia Malone & Jasmine Mussani (Girls), James Parsons & Jared Dandy (13), Dallas Clancy & Nicolas Brisebois (14-15), and Austin Evans & Isaac Lieff (16).
The crown for best Golf Quebec region was contested in group A with Montreal South and Montreal North regions.
The Format was modified intersectional match play with 3 teams in each group – 1st day : 9 holes 2 man scramble, 2nd day : two 9 holes individual matches.
After a long 1st day, the Ottawa team managed to move into a tie with the team from Montreal North. Both earned 12 points while Montreal South was blanked.
With only the singles day left the players had two nine hole individual matches worth 2 points each to contest, leaving total of 64 points were still up for grabs.
The OVGA juniors managed to hold on and outlast Montreal North to pick up 34 points while Montreal North earned 32 points. That gave the OVGA juniors a narrow victory of 2 points.
“The OVGA is proud of each team member for their sportsmanship, great etiquette , dedication and their outstanding play,” commented OVGA Junior Chair Louis Seguin.
Seguin was also quick to praise the contributions of Team Coach Matt Robinson who guided the young group.
