The Chateau Cartier Resort in Gatineau, Quebec hosted the 2012 Awards dinner for the PGA of Canada Ottawa Zone on Monday, October 15. Having covered most of the flagstick.com tour events this past summer, it was tough for this scribe to recognize a few of the pros who were dressed in business attire and not their normal golf shirts and hats.
Luke Saunders, President of the Ottawa PGA, welcomed all of those in attendance to their annual awards evening and dinner.
After a delicious dinner, Ottawa PGA Executive Director Harry Hereford asked Roseline Menard to come forward and receive her award for 25 years of service to the PGA of Canada. Harry then introduced the winners from the flagstick.com Players Tour for 2012 with Luke Saunders and Captain Greg Chambers making the presentations.
It looked like Graham Gunn from the White Sands Golf & Teaching Centre was going to spend the evening at the front of the room with his runner-up award from the “A” Match Play, his wins in the Golf Trends Spring Open and the TaylorMade Summer Open, as well as his Senior Championship win. Graham was also the winner of the Ottawa PGA Player of the Year Award sponsored by Flagstick Golf Magazine with the presentation made by Flagstick Golf Magazine Publisher Jeff Bauder.
Bob Flaro from the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club was the winner in the “A” side of the Match Play event and Sean Joyce from The Marshes was the winner of the Match Play “B” side over Steve Hall of Calabogie Highlands.
The Pro-Pro Championship event sponsored by Callaway Golf was won by Deep River’s Chris Learmonth and Chris Bernard from Emerald Links. Chris Learmonth was also the winner of the Ottawa PGA Championship sponsored by Acushnet Canada.
Ottawa PGA Past President Dale Pedersen announced the major award winners for the year as voted on by Ottawa PGA members with Luke Saunders and Harry Hereford making the award presentations to:
Ottawa PGA Merchandiser of the Year – Eric Robillard, Buckingham Golf Club
Ottawa PGA Sales Rep of the Year – Gavin Corbeil, Acushnet Canada
Ottawa PGA Teaching Professional of the Year – Michel Dagenais, Champlain Golf Club
Ottawa PGA Assistant Professional of the Year – Sean Joyce, The Marshes
Ottawa PGA Junior Leader of the Year – Matt Robinson, Rideau View Country Club
Ottawa PGA Club Professional of the Year – Paul Sherratt, Rideau View Country Club
A rousing rendition of Happy Birthday is not the normal way to end an evening, but Harry Hereford was very emotional after all those in attendance celebrated his birthday with a song and a round of applause.
Flagstick Golf Magazine congratulates all of the tournament and award winners from the 2012 season as well as those who participated in tournaments and those who were nominated for major awards.
