Ottawa and area golf fans are in for a treat with PGA TOUR Canada returning to the Hylands Golf Club for the second year in a row.

Renamed the “National Capital Open to Support Our Troops“, the Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services has teamed with PGA TOUR Canada looking to engage the National Capital community not just for this tournament but year-round.

A press conference to announce the rebranding took place in Ottawa on Tuesday.

“Our existing strong relationship with PGA TOUR Canada, along with our mandate to deliver fitness, sports and recreation programs and services to the members of the Canadian Armed Forces, makes our involvement in this event a great fit”, said Doug Langton, Associate Director General of Canadian Forces Morale & Welfare Services in his opening comments.  Langton will also serve as the Tournament Director for the event.

Mr. Langton continued, “The Support Our Troops Program is an invaluable Canadian Armed Forces morale and welfare program and The Official Charity of the tournament will again be the Support Our Troops Program, the two major elements of which are the Military Families Fund and the Soldier On Fund.  The Military Families Fund provides emergency financial assistance to military families faced with unforeseen and often immediate needs that have resulted due to conditions of service. The Soldier On Fund supports ill and injured serving and retired military personnel who have a permanent or chronic disability to attain an active and healthy lifestyle. It supports these personnel and their families, in increasing their independence, in developing new skills, in achieving goals and opening the door to other life opportunities.”

“It is very important for PGA TOUR Canada to have a presence in the Ottawa area”, added PGA TOUR Canada President Jeff Monday. “We’re looking forward to working with Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services in growing this event and making a strong impact in the community.”

Ottawa native Brad Fritsch recently earned exempt status for the 2015 season on the Web.com Tour and is returning as the Ottawa event’s Ambassador of Golf.

August 17-23 is the date for area golf fans to mark on their calendars to see top PGA TOUR Canada stars in action at Hylands Golf Club. Last year’s tournament was an eye-opener for many local golf fans with the quality of golf displayed throughout the tournament.
