After another strong run in 2015 the Quinte Invitational golf tournament at Black Bear Ridge golf course in Belleville is back.
The 2016 edition of the championship will take place on September 10th and 11th, a slightly earlier date that should bolster the field.
In 2015 Drew Mayhew of Kingston took the title with a score of 140 (-4).
Tournament Director Greg Knudsen says the event has grown immensely since the start and is now regarded on a whole new level, with potential for greater status.
“I started the event in 2010 as a regional championship,” says Knudsen. ” I felt with 4 or 5 quality clubs in the region this was now warranted. Admittedly we’ve been disappointed with the participation level from the local golfers, so in 2015 we opened the event to outside the region for the first time and crowned a high quality champion in Drew Mayhew. We see no reason that with a little more participation, that this can’t be a premiere men’s invitational in the province.”
The limited field of 60 participants will not only enjoy a Black Bear Ridge course that is rated among the best in the country, they will receive a registration gift, meal, and entry into a skins game for their $150 entry fee.
While it is a competitive event Knudsen says they still make sure they encourage a casual atmosphere.
“We want it to be fun, so we encourage participants to request their own pairings for round one; that makes it easy for travel etc., and helps everyone relax and just enjoy the game.”
Again playing over 36 holes in a stroke-play format, the golfers will be chasing a prize table with a value of $4,500 thanks to the support of various sponsors.
“The one area that we have been very pleased with is the support of our local sponsors. They have been very generous,” added Knudsen.
The event is presented by the Knudson/Brady/Vaughn Advisory Group and sponsored by Montgomery Fleet Services, Inc, Boston Pizza, Pretsell/Davies/Thompson/Benton, LLP (Lawyers), and Williams Hotels.
