CJGA, eQuinelle Hires A Pro & Trick Shots

The grass is still under a blanket of snow in most of Canada but Eastern Ontario golfers still seem to be getting wins on the golf course.

The latest happened over the weekend for Kingstonian Eric Macrow.

Macrow, who has already signed with Detroit-Mercy for his collegiate career, won the Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) Spring Break International, presented by the Core Golf Academy, in Florida.

Played at the  Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. Macrow won the Boys 15-19 Division in a two hole playoff over Anthony Truong of Vietnam. Macrow, a member of The Landings Golf & Teaching Centre, opened with a 68 but backed up with a 77 on a windy Sunday, forcing the playoff where he prevailed.

“It felt good to pull it out today” said Macrow after his first career playoff appearance. “My playing partners put a lot of pressure on me today but I was able to get up and down on the last few holes to force the playoff.”

Kemptville’s eQuinelle Golf Club has officially announced the hiring of their new Head Golf Professional.  Phil Rankin has joined the team and made an appearance with them at the recent Ottawa Gatineau Golf Expo.

A long-time PGA of Canada Professional who spent sixteen years at ClubLink Corporation including stints at Eagle Creek and Kanata Golf & Country Club, Rankin brings with him a wealth of experience to the five year-old eQuinelle.

“This is an amazing golf course and is on track to becoming one of Ontario’s finest premium golf facilities,” said Rankin. “My goal is to create an enjoyable golf experience that members and guests will be proud to say happens at eQuinelle, their home for golf.”

“I’m very excited to have Phil come on board as the head professional at eQuinelle this season,” explained Katharine Usher-Vollett, General Manager of the eQuinelle Golf Club. “His skills and experience that he brings to the club in the way of expanding on our golf academy and member programs will bring the club to an entire new level in the Ottawa golf market.”

TMSI Sports Management, the company that operates the golf club on behalf of the ownership group, also extended its enthusiasm for having an industry veteran join its team.

“Phil’s years of experience and professionalism are an asset to TMSI and we’re very happy to have him join our team,” said Rob Knights, VP of Operations for TMSI Sports Management. “His appointment as head professional at eQuinelle will enhance and build on what Katharine and the rest of her team have already accomplished there, pushing the golf club to the next level.”

Rankin will be responsible for overseeing the golf operations of the club and conducting lessons at a new golf academy he is set to introduce this Spring.

“With the focus on the golf academy as well as guest services, 2014 promises to be a fun, busy and successful golf season,” Rankin explained.

And finally a little fun for St. Patrick’s Day.  Napanee’s Josh Whalen passed along this video with he and his Kent State University Flash Golf Teammates showing their golf talents in many, many ways. Enjoy!
