-2014 BMG Cup Series Ready To Go-
Ottawa, Ontario (February 20, 2014) – Even with snow on the ground planning is well underway for the 2014 BMG Cup Series.
The three golf tournaments for amateurs conducted by Flagstick Golf Magazine will return to familiar ground this season, with 36-hole, two-day tournaments being played around Eastern Ontario in Gananoque, Kemptville, and in Brockville.
“We’re excited to once again be able to provide these great competitive opportunities,” says Flagstick Golf Magazine Publisher and Tournament Director Jeff Bauder. “The response to these events has been fantastic and in partnership with the host courses and supported by a great sponsor like Nike Golf Canada, we expect this year’s tournaments to be better than ever.”
In 2013 the BMG Cup Series as a whole was introduced with Allen McGee of Dunrobin, Ontario winning the overall points championship. McGee also fought off the challenge of reigning Canadian Women’s Amateur Champion Brooke Henderson to win the final series tournament, the Flagstick BCC Open.
The 2014 series starts on May 24/25 at the stunning Smuggler’s Glen Golf Course near Gananoque with the 6th Flagstick Shootout at Smuggler’s Glen. This invitation only event features a selected field of top amateurs. Last year Limestone College golfer Clayton Presant of Kingston became the first repeat champion in the tournament’s history.

Returning to the schedule for the second year is the Flagstick Open at eQuinelle. This highly popular flighted event is open on a first-come, first-serve basis for golfers with a maximum index of 18.
Located just 20 minutes south of Kanata, the 7,000-yard Darrell Huxham design located in Kemptville, Ontario is known for its incredible conditioning. In 2013 Rob Knights of Ottawa became the inaugural champion.

Capping off the series will be the Flagstick BCC Open at the Brockville Country Club on September 13/14, 2014. Played for the Stanley Thompson trophy, a handcrafted work of art that honours the memory of one of Canada’s greatest golf course designers, the BCC Open is open to players with an index of 18 and under. As mentioned Allen McGee won the tournament for the second year in a row in 2013.

For 2014 there is a revised and simpler point system for the BMG Cup Series based on overall placing for the tournament. Golfers are required to play two out of the three events to be eligible for the overall championship.
