Top professional and amateur golfers from Ontario will have a new tournament option starting late this summer.
The Great Lakes Tour announced today that they will conduct a new event, the Southern Ontario Open.
The 54-hole stroke play event will take place on August 30-September 1, 2012 at the Hidden Lake Golf Club in Burlington, Ontario.
Organizers say the purse will be $75,000.
The field for the tournament is set to cap at 156 players, all of whom must have a valid Ontario Health Card and/or Drivers License.
“For several years now, it seems we have been missing an event that brings together the best pros, amateurs, juniors and seniors in the province. The Southern Ontario Open falling at the end of the summer will have the feel of an overall championship and a true open champion will be crowned. A $75,000 purse should also get some attention,” said Rick Sovereign, PGA of Canada member and SOO Tournament Committee Member.
