Last year’s Symetra Tour season was a bit of a heartbreaker for Augusta James.
The Golf Canada Young Pro Squad member from Bath, Ontario came within a hair of earning her way on to the LPGA Tour after a 12th pace finish on the season long money list, the Volvik Race For The Card.
The top ten players earn their way from the development tour to the LPGA Tour each year.
That means James is back plying her trade on the lesser tour, but ever more determined to grab that coveted LPGA status.
The 22 year-old former Canadian Women’s Amateur winner got her 2016 campaign off to the right start this past week.
At the opening event on the 2016 Symetra Tour, the IOA Championship played in Beaumont, California, she finished in a tie for 8th place.
She achieved that mark via rounds of 75, 66, and 69 for a six under par total on the week.
Remarkably, James recorded 13 birdies over her last 34 holes. She had opened the second round with two bogies before making birdies on eight of the next sixteen holes.
She earned $2,557 for her efforts.
In total, eight Canadians made the cut in Beaumont, with four finishing in the top eight spots.
