The Great Waterway Classic has announced that Trillium Wood Golf Club in the Bay of Quinte region will host the Open Qualifier for this year’s Mackenzie Tour-PGA TOUR Canada event. The ninth event on this year’s Mackenzie Tour schedule takes place August 24-30 at Loyalist Golf & Country Club in Bath, Ontario, just outside of Kingston.

“Hosting a Mackenzie Tour open qualifier is very exciting for Trillium Wood Golf Club. We look forward to providing a great golf course to some of the world’s best golfers,” said President Stephen McCurdy. “I know our staff is looking forward to the challenge. It is also a great opportunity for Belleville and the Quinte Region, to continue to put its name on the golfing community in Ontario and Quebec. Thank you to Mackenzie Tour for choosing Trillium Wood GC to host this event.”

“We are pleased to be able to work with a venue such as Trillium Wood and incorporate them into this year’s tournament,” said Brad Parkins, Tournament Director of The Great Waterway Classic. “The course will be a great test for those looking to qualify for this year’s event and we need to thank the ownership, management and members for providing us with their facility.”

Last year, The Great Waterway Classic posted the second largest open qualifying field on the Mackenzie Tour as 113 players teed it up in the one-day qualifier in an attempt to earn one of the 10 qualifying spots available into the tournament field

A full field of 156 players will tee it up on Thursday and Friday of the official tournament (August 27 & 28) with the top 60 professionals and ties making it to the weekend.

Players will be competing for a purse of $175,000 in the season long race to be one of the top five money winners at the end of the season and earn status on the Web.com Tour for the following season.

The Great Waterway Classic gets under way Thursday August 24, 2015.

All net proceeds from the event will be donated to the Lennox & Addington County General Hospital Foundation.
