In the 1990’s the name “Orlimar” was on the lips of just about ever golfer.  Along with Adams Golf, the company ushered in a frenzied period where shallow-faced metal woods were THE thing to own.  Their low centres of gravity helped launch the golf ball higher for just about every golfer and backed by a flurry of infomercials, they were a commercial success.

Of course, most of those who rise high eventually fall and that was the case for the Orlimar brand which could not sustain it’s initial success.

Eventually the brand came into the hands of King Par Golf, a Michigan based company who not only operates a golf superstore but develops products for both it’s private label customers and under their Affinity and Intech Brands. The acquisition of Orlimar gave them their biggest name within their portfolio.

After acquiring Orlimar in 2003,  King Par has had various levels of success with the product line.  They are hoping that spikes a little more with the introduction of the Orlimar Tour 2 irons that it brought to the market just over a month ago.

The premium set of irons is targeted at the low-index golfer who likes the look and feel of a forged blade but also enjoys the assistance of perimeter weighting in the clubhead.

The nickel-chrome plated heads are forged from 1025 carbon steel with a thin top line for a traditional appearance.  Minimal hosel offset also adds to the classic look.

“This product reaffirms Orlimar’s commitment to premium products for tour caliber players,” said John Runyon, Orlimar President and CEO. “The Tour 2 irons is Orlimar’s first entry into this category under the new ownership and we are very excited with the initial feedback from professionals and amateurs who have tested them. They give the irons high marks in control, feel and workability; all characteristics that the better player is looking for in a forged cavity back iron.”

The Orlimar Tour 2 irons are available in a 3 – PW set with True Temper® Dynamic Gold® S300 or R300 shaft options and Golf Pride® grips and right-handed only. Custom fit shaft and grip options are also available.
