The Lakeview Golf Resort & Spa in Morgantown, featuring the Lakeview and Mountainview Championship Golf Courses, was the last destination on our golf-writer’s familiarization to West Virginia. Our hosts for our stay were Senior Golf Sales Manager Tim Bucklew and Golf Sales Manager Laura Fahner.
The Lakeview Golf Course, designed by James Harrison, opened for full play in 1954 and measures between 5432 and 6357 yards with 4 sets of tees. Rated among the Top 100 public courses in America, the par 5 – 18th hole measuring 620 yards from the tips and its green has never been reached in two shots. Those failing to accomplish this feat include just to name a few, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Sam Snead, Gary Player and Andy Bean and now myself.
Featuring tight, tree-lined fairways including many with severe vertical drops, large undulating greens and numerous scenic views of the surrounding area and Cheat Lake, the Lakeview course is a must play on any trip to the Morgantown area located less than one hour south of the West Virginia border. The Lakeview Golf Resort & Spa also offers a variety of golf packages and are more than willing to set up a personal package for you and your group.
Morgantown is also home to the West Virginia University Mountaineers who play football in the BIG 12 and who were at the time of our visit ranked in the Top 10 in college rankings in the United States.
All too soon, our familiarization trip to various golf locales in West Virginia has come to an end. During our short visit, we were privileged to play on just a few of the numerous golf courses available in West Virginia.
