Kingston’s Matt McQuillan is edging closer to the all-important top 125 on the PGA Tour Money list.
The rookie posted his third top ten finish on the year on Sunday, a tie for seventh, at the Frys.com Open to earn just over $130,000 and push his winnings for the year to over $553,000. That puts him in 132nd on the money list, much closer to the Top 125 that will retain full status on the tour for 2012. Players finishing 126-150 retain non-exempt status and automatically earn a spot in the final stage of PGA Tour Qualifying School.
With two events left in the season McQuillan is within striking distance of the top 125, especially if he can play like he did at the Frys. He finished at 11 under par and was 6 under par on his closing 10 holes.
Also tying for seventh with McQuillan were fellow Canadians David Hearn and Adam Hadwin.
All three players will be in the field this week at McGladrey Classic at Sea Island, Georgia.
