One of the most heralded young golfers from Eastern Ontario is now garnering collegiate honours as well.

To no surprise Augusta James of Bath, Ontario, the 201o Ontario Junior Girls and 2011 Ontario Women’s Amateur champion, is making an impact at North Carolina State University.

On Monday James was name to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Team and she was also named Freshman of The Year for the Conference.  James joined teammate Brittany Marchand of Orangeville, Ontario on the All-ACC squad, making the first time that NC State had placed to players on the team at the same time.

In her rookie collegiate season James set an NC State record with a stroke average of 73.73.  She is currently ranked 60th in the NCAA by GolfStat and 67th by GolfWeek.  In nine tournament appearances she had four top five finishes including a playoff loss.

The No. 22 ranked NC State women’s golf won an at-large berth to the NCAA Central Regional, also announced Monday night. The regional will take place May 10-12 at the Ohio State University Golf Club’s Scarlet Course.

James is expected to defend her Ontario Women’s Amateur title later this summer on home turf.  The Loyalist Country Club in Bath on July 17-19.
