Three of the top regional playing professionals are in action this week and they all had fairly steady starts to their tournaments – at least when you look at the final score.
In Athens, Georgia both Jon Mills (Deep River/Belleville) and Matt McQuillan (Kingston) are in the field at the Stadion Classic at UGA. It is a homecoming of sorts for McQuillan who spent a year of his collegiate career at the University of Georgia. UGA Golf Coach Chris Haack even invited McQuillan to use a locker in the golf team locker room for the week.
Both Mills and McQuillan shot 71, even par in round one of the Nationwide Tour event, garnering them a share of 24th place. Mills had steady round with just one birdie and one par on the card while McQuillan had a tumultuous route to his 71, including six birdies and six bogeys. Live leaderboard here.
Down in Mexico the Canadian Tour’s Mexican PGA Championship is underway. Manotick, Ontario’s Brad Fritsch is tied for 40th place after round one. His even par round of 72 included 14 pars, two birdies and two bogeys. Live leaderboard here.
