Ashworth Looking For a “Big Break” In Michigan

It’s hard to argue that, within golf circles at least, The Big Break franchise has been wildly successful for The Golf Channel. That said, the resulting filter-down effect of being affiliated with the cable channel’s most visible show is a pretty valuable one.

Carlsbad based Ashworth, Inc has proven in the past that they know the marketing game and they have jumped at the opportunity to partner with The Golf Channel and the upcoming “Big Break X: Michigan,” which debuts October 7. The show was shot at Boyne Highlands Resort, located in Harbor Springs, Michigan.

The twelve part series airs more than 100 hours of programming in United States and additional 100+ hours internationally and Ashworth is happy to showcase their current Men’s and Women’s Fall 2008 line to more than 30 million homes internationally and 80 million homes domestically (Canada and the US.)

Ashworth will be the official golf apparel supplier of the Big Break 10, and who knows – although no indication has been made – given that their CEO, Allan Fletcher, is from Canada they just might be interested in being a part of Big Break XI. That series will film in the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island, reportedly in just a few weeks and it is scheduled to air in late winter.

On Big Break X: Michigan, the show’s eight person teams have been outfitted in the current Ashworth Fall Lineup. Male contestants were provided assorted product from all four Fall 2008 categories—Third Groove Performance fabrics, Hi-Def 100% Luxury Cotton, environmentally friendly Ashworth Organics and young-minded ASHW33. Female contestants were offered all three of the Fall 2008 Women’s collections—California, New York and Hawaii. According to the company, “Each has its very own identity, achieved through color scheme, styling, fabrics and trims.”

“We are really excited about playing a role in the 10th season of the Big Break series on GOLF CHANNEL,” says Chris Demirjian, Ashworth Inc.’s Director of Sports Marketing. “We know the competitors will love the styles and variety of the apparel we have supplied them. It’s a great opportunity for the competitors to see how our Fall 2008 line looks and feels, as well as a wonderful opportunity for golfers worldwide to see our new line in action.”

The winning team will earn an exemption for the male to compete in the 2009 Children’s Miracle Network Classic at the Walt Disney World Resort while the female will play in the 2009 Bell Micro LPGA Classic in Mobile, Ala.

“Once the Big Break golfers wear our Fall 2008 apparel during the competition, they’ll see how our product speaks for itself,” Demirjian says. “We’re hoping our relationship with GOLF CHANNEL and the Big Break series is one that is long lasting and rewarding.”
