With a field of top profesisonals on hand nobody really expected that a 17 year-old amateur would be in the mix when it came to the top spots but that was exactly the case at the CPGA Womens’ Championship that concluded on Wednesday, August 18.

2010 Ontario Junior Champion and future North Carolina State Wolfpack golfer Augusta James of Bath, Ontario fired an impressive 68 in the concluding round of play.  As a result she finished in 7th place by herself, easily the top amateur in the field.

The winner, with a two-round total of 6 under par, was Laura Bavaird of Michigan.  She earned $12,000 for her efforts along with an exemption into the 2011 CN Canadian Women’s Open.

Former Brockville resident Lanie Cahill (now playing out of Watertown, New York) tied for 30th place while Brockville junior Brooke Mallory earned a share of 39th.

Ottawa’s Julie Cashaback tied for 67th while the National Capital’s Katie Walkerdid not complete both rounds of play.  She shot 85 in the opening round and no reason was given for her withdrawal.
