The 2012 Golf Quebec tournament season officially got underway on the weekend with the playing of the Duquette Constrcution Junior Spring Open, the 1st event on the Vertdure Provincial Junior Tour.
A strong field of competitors, including some from the Ottawa – Gatineau region, played 36 holes at the Shenendoah Golf Club at Turning Stone in Resort in Verona, New York
Playing in the final event of her junior career (she turns 19 on April 28) Josée Doyon of Royal Québec shot 72-70 for an 8 stroke victory
In the boys’ competition, Hugo Bernard of La Vallée du Richelieu (who is ranking #1 amongst junior boys of Québec) maintained his 2011 rhythm. He played an exceptional round of 67 on the second day of the event, including 8 birdies, which enabled him to defeat Mathieu Kennis of Rivermead (75-71) and Joey Savoie of Pinegrove (75-71).
Savoie also seems to be backing up his 2011 achievements. He is currently the double provincial champion with the junior and juvenile titles.
In the juvenile category (16 years old and under), Jonathan Fortin of Royal Québec (75-74) captured the victory ahead of Étienne Papineau of Royal Bromont, Austin James of Loyalist, and Sun Kim of St-Raphael who each tied for second place. Eric Marshall of the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club finished in 5th place.
In the Juvenile girls’ competition, Valérie Tanguay won by 5 strokes over Catherine Rousseau of Royal Québec.
