Sharing 30th place at the LPGA Kia Classic to start the final round it was hard to imagine that Brooke Henderson would be able to extend her current top ten streak. With four finishes in that range in the same number of events of late she would need to have a low final round in Carlsbad, California to make it happen.
Much like she had done many time before, she delivered.
The 18 year-old from Smiths Falls, ON closed with three birdies at the Aviara Golf Club to post a final round 66 and a four round total of 279 (73,70,70,66). She was a remarkable 7 under par for the last fourteen holes of the tournament.
That was good enough to garner her fifth top-ten placing in a row, and give her some nice momentum heading into next week’s major, the ANA Inspiration.
It looked like the streak would be snapped just after she finished when Jessica Korda closed with two birdies to push Brooke into 11th but a late double bogey by Brittany Lang snuck Brooke back into a share of tenth.
Lydia Ko earned her 11th LPGA Tour win with the victory at the Kia Classic.
Henderson came into the tournament in 6th place on the tour’s Race To CME Globe Championship and is projected to maintain that position.
