Canadian Tour Championship Moves to Windsor’s Ambassador Club

The Canadian Tour has announced that the 2011 Canadian Tour Championship will be played at the Ambassador Golf Club in Windsor, Ontario from August 25-28.

The $300,000 Tour Championship is moving from the St. Catharines Golf & Country Club where it has been played since 2009.

Designed by renowned architect Thomas McBroom, the Ambassador Golf Club was nominated one of the best new courses in Canada when it opened in 2005. At 7,033 yards, the par 71 will be a major test for the best in Canadian professional golf.

“The Ambassador Club, along with our owners, the Coco Group of Companies, is very proud and honoured to host the 2011 Canadian Tour Championship,” said Ambassador General Manager Dave Cours.

“We look forward to welcoming the Tour and all of the players to Windsor and the Ambassador for a fun and exciting week of world-class golf.”

Canadian Tour Commissioner Rick Janes said: “The Canadian Tour Championship has been played over outstanding golf courses and hosted by many fantastic volunteers. We have been very privileged and there is every indication that Windsor and the Ambassador Golf Club will host another great event.

“We have received a very warm welcome from the City of Windsor and I know our players will make it an exciting week of golf,” Janes said.

The Canadian Tour Championship is the flagship event on the Canadian Tour and typically determines the final standings on the Canadian Tour money list as well as exemptions into the second stage of PGA TOUR Qualifying School.

Past Champions have included Canadians Stuart Anderson of Victoria who won in Barrie, Ontario at Horseshoe Highlands in 2006. James Love of Calgary took top honours at the St. Catharines Golf & Country Club in 2009.

Americans Bret Guetz and Tom Stankowski won the event at Barrie’s National Pines in 2007 and 2008 respectively.  Aaron Goldberg, the 2010 ROLEX Player of the Year, won at St. Catharines in 2010 and has since graduated to the Nationwide Tour.
