Just months after it was announced that the Canadian Tour would be making a return to Eastern Ontario for the first time in a decade with The Great Waterway Classic, the promoters of that event and the Canadian Tour sweetened the pot for regional golfers this evening by announcing another event set to take place in 2012.

At a press and supporter event in Kemptville today the parties revealed that The Commissioner’s Cup, the Tour’s International Team Matches, will be played at the eQuinelle Golf Club on Tuesday, September 11th, 2012.  With a scheduled pro-am the day prior that will have the Canadian Tour with a continual presence in the region from September 3rd through to the 11th with The Great Waterway Classic being played at Smuggler’s Glen in the Ivy Lea/Lansdowne area from September 3-9th.

The Commissioner’s Cup is sanctioned by the Canadian Tour and will feature a Charity Pro-Am on September 10th to benefit the Royal Ottawa Foundation for Mental Health’s “Do It for Daron” fund followed by matches between a small but talented field of Canadian Tour professionals the next day over the Darrell Huxham designed eQuinelle layout.  “We are excited to be part of the Pro-Am event at eQuinelle. One of our goals is to get people, especially young people, talking about mental health, inspiring open conversation and creating awareness,” said Nancy Stanton of the Royal Ottawa Foundation for Mental Health on behalf of D.I.F.D.

At a “Nine and Dine” hosted by General Manager Katharine Usher-Vollett and her staff at the eQuinelle GC today, representatives from the Canadian Tour, Evolution Golf, the Great Waterway Tourism Region, the North Grenville business community, as well as municipal government officials gathered to hear the announcement.

Rick Janes, Commissioner of the Canadian Tour remarked, “We are excited to once again collaborate with Evolution Golf and Event Management Inc. to bring The Commissioner’s Cup to the North Grenville area. We will be raising funds for charity and showcasing 36 top Canadian Tour players over two days of play at this great new golf course that our friends at Evolution Golf have highly recommended. The significance of playing these International Team Matches on September 11th has not been lost on our planning group and we intend to mark that day in a special manner to honour our neighbours from the United States of America.”

Martin Noe, the CEO of Evolution Golf and Event Management Inc. observed, “This is another opportunity to bring the Canadian Men’s Professional Golf Tour experience to The Great Waterway. We have captured the excitement and enthusiasm of Katharine Vollett at eQuinelle GC, the support of the growing North Grenville community and bundled it together to bring two days of championship golf to a venue that will prove to be a one of those courses that should be on your ‘must play’ list.”

The Commissioner’s Cup is the third piece in a growing inventory of events that are managed by Evolution Golf. The series of four Great Waterway Classic Canadian Tour events was announced on January 19, 2012 at Smuggler’s Glen GC. The Evolution Golf – St. Lawrence Junior Tour was launched on May 15th at the Amherstview GC near Kingston, ON. Evolution Golf Director of Tournament Development, David Dargie stated, “Evolution Golf is a new company that has demonstrated on several fronts that we want to grow the game of golf in The Great Waterway Tourism Region. Our support of the Canadian Men’s Professional Golf Tour, our title sponsorship of the Evolution Golf – St. Lawrence Junior Tour and our newest addition, The Commissioner’s Cup – International Team Matches are all evidence that we are in the golf business for the long run.”

The Great Waterway Classic activation team will be at over 70 events throughout Eastern Ontario, the National Capital Region, and the Ottawa Valley during this golf season promoting the GWC and The Commissioner’s Cup.
