Canadian Tour Qualifying Underway

Qualifying School for the 2012 Canadian Tour is through round one in California.

In winds that gusted to 50 kilometres an hour yesterday, the field of 149 players took to the Oak Valley Golf Club and the Country Club at Soboba Springs on Tuesday in hopes of earning one of the 30 exempt or an additional 30 non-exempt spots for the Canadian circuit for 2012.

Leading the way was Kevin Tucker of Scottsdale, Arizona who posted a 3 under, 69, at Saboba Springs.

The top Canadians were Mitch Evanecz and Cory Renfrew who share eighth place at even par.

Eastern Ontario’s Oliver Tubb, raised in Stirling (north of Belleville) and now residing in Vancouver had a solid 73 to get the 72-hole qualifier underway.  That has him in a tie for 15th.  Make note that if you look at the leaderboard that Tubb has a Scottish flag next to his name; he was actually born in Glasgow, Scotland.
