– Fritsch Is One Of Seven Canadians Advancing From 2nd Stage –
Three of the six sites of second stage of the PGA Tour Qualifying School wrapped up on Friday, including the perfect ending for one Ottawa area golfer.
In McKinney, Texas Manotick’s Brad Fritsch polished of four days of fine play with a closing score of 70. That allowed him to finish play at eleven under par. He opened with 68, 67, and 72. Fritsch said after the round he was tired and proud. With his advancement to Final Stage he will at minimum have non-exempt status on the Nationwide Tour in 2012. The last time he had any status on that tour was in 2009. He played that tour from 2007-2009.
Fritsch is coming off a very steady season on the Canadian Tour where he finished 12th on the Final Order of Merit.
The only other Canadian to advance to final stage of Friday was Richard Scott of Kingsville, Ontario.
On Saturday five other Canadians joined Fritsch and Scott in the class of 2nd stage graduate who will have a shot at a PGA Tour card in a few weeks.
Joining them at Final Stage will be Stuart Anderson, Ryan Yip, Richard T. Lee., James Love, and Mitch Gillis.
That will make 9 Canadians in total at final stage as Adam Hadwin previously received an exemption to the the finals while Matt McQuillan of Kingston, Ontario was exempt due to his 137th place finish on the 2011 PGA Tour Money List.
Final stage of the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament begins on November 30th at PGA West Nicklaus and Stadium Courses in La Quinta, California. The six round tournament will see the top 25 players plus ties earn exempt status on the PGA Tour in 2012. The next fifty players and ties will be fully exempt for the 2012 Nationwide Tour.
